Encounter Alone Isn’t Enough
Endurance Matters.
We live in a world that loves the big moments. The spectacular. The unforgettable encounter. Whether it’s in our faith, our careers, or even our relationships, we often crave the mountaintop experiences that leave us breathless.
And yes, encounters with God can change everything. A powerful worship moment, a miraculous answer to prayer, a whisper of His presence in the middle of the storm—those encounters are precious. They are often the catalyst that ignites fresh passion and vision in our hearts.
But here’s the truth: encounter alone isn’t enough.
Scripture reminds us that it’s not the quick start that counts, but the faithful finish. Jesus said, “The one who stands firm to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:13). Paul urged Timothy to “fight the good fight of faith” (1 Timothy 6:12). The book of Hebrews calls us to “run with endurance the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1–2).
Moments ignite us, but it is endurance that sustains us.
Think about it:
Encounter is like striking a match. Endurance is what keeps the fire burning.
Encounter is the spark. Endurance is the steady flame.
Encounter inspires. Endurance transforms.
In my own life, I’ve had incredible moments where God’s presence felt overwhelming. Those moments gave me courage, but what has carried me through the valleys, the hospital wards, the long nights of waiting and wondering, is endurance. The decision, daily, sometimes hourly, to keep trusting Him. To keep putting one foot in front of the other when the feelings fade and the answers don’t come quickly.
This is where faith matures. This is where character is forged. This is where God proves Himself Good and faithful, not just in the highs of encounter, but in the grind of endurance.
So if you’ve had a powerful moment with God, rejoice. Cherish it. Let it fuel your faith. But don’t stop there. Choose endurance.
Because the world doesn’t just need Christians who can experience God. It needs Christians who can keep following Him when the road is steep, when the sky is grey, when the crowd has gone home, and when faith looks like faithfulness.
Encounter alone isn’t enough. Endurance matters.
